This isn’t really an apt comparison. Narcotics traffickers seeking safe haven are relatively small in number and slow-moving. Social media users, groups, and content postings literally number in the billions per day. Moderation on social media platforms, even small ones like MeWe, is a pipe dream. Asking 100 moderators to police the traffic generated by 15 million users is a physical impossibility, as is asking 2,000 or 10,000 moderators at Facebook (I don’t know how many they employ) to police the traffic of 2 billion users. The solution to this problem will need to be at least partly automated and will require that the platforms relinquish some of their obscene profitability. We also have to accept that any solution will not, in the end, be totally effective.
